Residential Services for Children & Adolescents in Virginia

Carrington Developmental Support Services provides safe, nurturing residential care for children and adolescents in a family-centered environment. In this program, up to two young individuals live in the home of a trained professional provider, becoming an integrated part of the family.

Family providers deliver most daily supports and may work with additional trained staff as needed. All staff members are thoroughly trained to follow each child’s Individual Plan for Supports (ISP), ensuring consistent, personalized care.

Our licensed services are offered on a case-by-case basis for youth under 18. We serve children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions, and other developmental disabilities.

We also provide guidance on funding options, including:

  • ID/DD Waiver

  • Comprehensive Services Act (CSA)

  • Discharge Assistance Planning

At Carrington, our goal is to create a loving, encouraging community where children and adolescents can thrive, grow, and live meaningful lives.

At Carrington Developmental Support Services, we believe that every child deserves to be surrounded by people who see their strengths, encourage their independence, and guide them with compassion. By combining structured developmental support with genuine care, we help each child grow into their fullest potential—mind, body, and spirit.

During a child’s formative years, having consistent, compassionate support is essential—especially for those with mental and physical disabilities. These early years lay the foundation for emotional stability, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Children thrive when they are surrounded by caregivers and educators who understand their unique needs, celebrate their abilities, and provide patient guidance as they navigate daily challenges. By focusing on individualized care and intentional developmental strategies, children can build essential life skills, improve communication, and experience the joy of learning in an environment that recognizes and nurtures their potential.

Equally important is the atmosphere in which a child grows. A warm, nurturing environment fosters trust, emotional security, and self-worth—elements that are vital for healthy development. When children feel safe and valued, they are more willing to explore, engage, and connect with others.
